Aperture WWW Server

Welcome to Aperture - On this web site - What's new on Aperture

Welcome to the Aperture World Wide Web Server! Aperture, located at aperture.nonpaged.com and subdomains, is a small group of internet and intranet-connected computers running UNIX-like operating systems, including this time-sharing system that runs the GNU Operating System.

This machine was an AMD64 Dell PowerEdge computer located in Akron, Ohio, but is now a virtual machine in Vint Hill, Virginia for the time being. It is primarily used for software development, research, service hosting for FTP, HTTP/HTTPS (including these web pages), IMAP/SMTP, IPP, NTP, and DNS, along with various general daily computing needs for its users. It, like many other computers used by Aperture, run the Debian distribution of the GNU Operating System, ensuring better usability and compatability between computers.

Aperture might not be much, but it has the potential to do a lot of great things for free software and open source technologies, open computing, and much much more. We're glad you are here!

What's new on Aperture

June 13, 2025
The web site and domain next.gen.oh.us has been merged back into the nonpaged.com project as aperture.nonpaged.com, in order to allow the overall Nonpaged project to not just need to just be a shell provider and web host. This change was made due to search engines half-year-long refusal to index gen.oh.us web sites. At least Anton is not required to stay in Ohio now, so there is some good that came from the problem at least.
May 20, 2025
GNU Mailman 3 is now installed.
May 10, 2025
Intranet connectivity has been restored. Additionally, with 2/2 current local network users having been reconnected to the Aperture network, Anton can safely announce that Aperture has acheived 100% connectivity!

The experiment of /home/username/ as a tilde-less replacement to /~username/ has been rolled back to using the userdirs. There is, in fact, absolutely nothing wrong with having a ~ symbol in your URIs. Only users with a web site on here before May 7th are affected. Sadly, that was only one person, as nobody else had web sites.

The primary Aperture server has received some upgrades to its operating system and storage array. User data has been migrated to the new system as well. If anything is missing or broken, please notify the administrator via your @aperture.nonpaged.com e-mail address.
May 1, 2025
User pages moved to /home/username/ instead of /~username/.

Added information about e-mailing.
April 30, 2025
The original page layout for Aperture is back. The attempted replacement felt too devoid of information or anything else useful.
March 4, 2025
Aperture's new home page is now live.
